Tips to strengthen your Hips

Did you know that hip fractures are common, it is reported that in 2015 – 2016 there were an estimated 18 700 new hip fractures in Australia.

And get this, 2.2 million Australians are affected by osteoporosis. 

Studies have revealed that around 1:2 women and 1:4 men aged 50 and above, will have a bone break due to osteoporosis.

There is no time like the present to start taking action to maintain and improve your bone health.

Calcium, Exercise and Vitamin D are an excellent way to start.

Performing hip exercise will assist you with balance. The benefits are countless.

The following exercise is easy and straightforward to do. You will need a chair and a loop band. Loop bands are available at WOW Mobility, if you are unsure of what type to get, the team at the shop will be able to help you. Just drop in or give them a call. 

Step 1 – Sit on the chair

Step 2 – Place the loop band around both your thighs just above the knee

Step 3 – Spread your knees apart keeping your feet together using your outer thighs

Always keep your back straight up against the chair, feet flat on the floor. Exhale as you spread your knees apart and inhale when you bring them back together. You will feel when you have done enough, pat yourself on the back and do it again tomorrow.
