We have all heard about support workers but have you ever wondered what they do?

At WOW! Mobility & Rehab, we value support workers. We are always in awe of their various tasks and appreciate their insight into the products their clients need to assist them in daily tasks.

The official role of a support worker is a professional who provides emotional, social and practical support to those with challenging mental and health conditions.

The way we see it is that support workers provide so much more. We like to think that support workers care for every client individually and open up their clients’ lives to what can be achieved instead of what they can do for them. So support workers – empower their clients.

We have heard of support workers teaching a client how to cook a new recipe, taking the client out to new places they have never been to, or supporting the client in developing a new hobby.

A support worker can also help with meal management, household budgets and teaching life skills. They are good listeners and patient and have strong communication and time management skills.

Of course, they do all the practical things like assisting with dressing, bathing, toileting, eating, cooking, cleaning, laundry, medication management or attending medical appointments. These tasks can be challenging for some clients, things that we all sometimes take for granted.

A support worker can be independent or work for one of the many fantastic service providers we have in our local region.
