Choosing the right Lift Chair

When it comes to lounge chairs, it is crucial to consider that there is a difference between a recliner and a lift chair.

You don’t need to be old to benefit from a lift chair.

‌Lift chairs help you move from a sitting to a standing position. They’re helpful for people recovering from surgery or those with arthritis or a neurological condition that limits movement. You control a lift chair using a remote control.

The team at WOW! Mobility & Rehab can help you pick the right chair for your needs. We have listed several things you should consider below to give you a few tips.

Size

Lift chairs come in petite, standard and bariatric sizing.

Make sure your feet can reach the ground comfortably, and your knees aren’t higher than your thighs.

A footrest that is too long will push your feet forward and cause strain on your ankles. A footrest that is too short will result in your feet hanging off the footrest and pressure being distributed to your calves. The footrest should end around the ankle.

The seat of your chair should support the length of the buttocks and thighs. The front edge should be curved, ending two or three finger widths behind the knees to avoid pressure behind the knee.

Motor

Lift chairs can have one, two or four motors. A single motor will restrict the order you need to do things, like having to raise your leg rest before being able to recline in the chair.

A dual motor lift chair will allow you to move the backrest and leg rest separately.

A four-motor chair allows for the independent adjustment of a headrest, lumbar, back and footrest.

Zero Gravity

One of the most significant benefits of a chair with the zero-gravity function is that it promotes better circulation throughout the body, reducing varicose veins and soothing swelling. As a result, not only does your heart work better, but your lungs can expand to a fuller position, too, thanks to the open angle of the thighs and torso.
