Poor circulation – symptoms and relief

Did you know that our body holds about 96 000 kilometres of blood vessels? Unfortunately, when your circulation slows or blocks the flow of blood, the cells in your body cannot get the much-needed oxygen and nutrients needed.

Poor circulation can occur as a result of several conditions. Common symptoms include:

cold hands and feet – reduced blood flow can cause the hands and feet to feel much colder than the rest of the body.

Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet – where there is a restriction of the blood flow, a person may experience pins and needles.

Swelling in the feet, ankles, and legs – poor circulation can cause fluid to gather in some regions of the body.

Memory loss and difficulty focusing – poor circulation can affect the functioning of the brain, creating cognitive problems.

Digestive issues – reduced blood flow can produce abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, cramping and bloody stools.

Joint and muscle cramping – pain can arise from poor circulation in the hands, feet, legs, calf muscles and arms. The lack of oxygen and nutrients within the tissues can result in cramping and stiffness.

Tiredness – energy levels can be affected by poor blood flow.

Skin colour changes – this occurs when there is an inadequate amount of arterial blood entering the body’s tissues making the skin to appear pale or blue.

Ulcers in the legs or feet – the ability to heal is affected by poor circulation.

Varicose veins – poor circulation causes existing varicose veins to become visible, making it harder for blood to return to the heart.

So to find relief, there is a need to improve your circulation. Ways to try and improve your circulation can include:

Drink more water – blood is about half water. So staying hydrated will assist your blood to keep moving.

Compression assists with stopping the blood from sitting in one spot, ensuring that it moves around the body and back up to the heart.  Wow Mobility offers several compression garments that can help you find relief.

A healthy diet is excellent for your circulation

A recliner can assist, as it helps direct the blood flow. At WOW Mobility, there are many quality recliners that not only can assist with your circulation but can offer ultimate relaxation.
