COVID-19 Vaccine Roll-out

The COVID-19 vaccine is being administered across Australia, but what does this mean.

There is more than one COVID-19 vaccine available in Australia, with every vaccine approved for use by the TGA and meeting strict standards. The trails for the vaccines involve tens of thousands of participants worldwide. The vaccine you receive may depend on when and where you will be vaccinated and the clinical guidelines that determine who each vaccine is safe for.

People with disability, workers and carers will be among the first groups to receive the vaccine, with the vaccine being free and voluntary for everyone.

Currently, hospital staff and patients and residents and staff of residential aged and disability care facilities will be vaccinated.

Doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be made available for priority groups in 30–50 hospital hubs in urban and rural locations around Australia.

The first Pfizer hubs will be at:

  • Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (NSW)
  • Westmead Hospital (NSW)
  • Liverpool Hospital (NSW)
  • Monash Medical Centre Clayton (VIC)
  • Sunshine Hospital (VIC)
  • Austin Health (VIC)
  • University Hospital Geelong (VIC)
  • Gold Coast University Hospital (QLD)
  • Cairns Hospital (QLD)
  • Princess Alexandra Hospital (QLD)
  • Royal Adelaide Hospital (SA)
  • Flinders Medical Centre (SA)
  • Perth Children’s Hospital (WA)
  • Royal Hobart Hospital (TAS)
  • The Canberra Hospital (ACT)
  • Royal Darwin Hospital (NT)

The number of Pfizer hubs will increase as more doses arrive in Australia.

The AstraZeneca vaccine will be available at GP respiratory clinics, General Practices that meet specific requirements, Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Services, and state-run vaccination clinics.
