Are your walker handles the right height for you?

No matter how tall (or short) you are, if you use a walker, either with wheels or without, you’ll need to make sure the handles are set to the most comfortable height for you.

To make sure your walker is right for your height, you’ll need a tape measure, the shoes you would normally wear out, and if possible, a friend or family member to help take some measurements.

If you’re very tall, you may need to add extensions to your walker, while for those who are a little shorter in stature, a special petite version might be the best option.

  1. Wear the shoes you’re most likely to wear out when you’re using your walker – this will help you get the height right. Stand up straight behind your walker.
  2. With your arms relaxed at your sides, measure from your wrist to the floor – this is the ideal height for your handles.
  3. Make sure your walker is adjustable to allow for different shoes and floor surfaces.
